1st Pennant boiler install; suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. The pump should be sized correctly for the application. The Pennant is similar in design to the mighty max line of Laars boilers, so it is a single pass.

Mostly curious if there are any special control or setup issues to be aware of. I've had good luck with Laars products in the past, with the exception of the Endurance series.

    1st Pennant boiler install; suggestions?

Installing a Laars Pennant 750 MBTU boiler in a residential job. Will be P/S piping and have a Grundfos 43-44 circulator on the boiler loop.

Any experiences with the Pennant? I'll be controlling with a tekmar 361 injection control and a 665 snow melt control. Any boiler setup suggestions or tips?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the Pennant

Assuming it's a copper tube boiler, it's critical that you pay careful attention to the flow through the boiler. Too much flow can cause just as many problems as not enough.

    Pennant

    Hi, John.

Thanks for using the Pennant. The control has 6 available modes of operation. The mode depends on how it's piped (you said primary-secondary) and how it is being called for heat. It's very easy to choose the mode and to do whatever programming needs to be done. If you want to see the descriptions of all the modes, you can download the installation manual from www.laars.com.

If it is primary secondary, and your external control is staging the Pennant, you'd be in mode 6.

If it is primary secondary and the external control is calling the Pennant for heat, and you want to activate the Pennant's outdoor reset, you'd use mode 5. (Mode 2 if you are not using the Pennant outdoor reset.)

The heat exchanger in the Pennant is very close to the one we have used for years on the Mighty Therm line (same header design, but 10-tubes instead of 8). It's different from the Mighty Max, which was a double-row design.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions about the Pennant. jmishou@laars.com

Thanks. I'll be using the Pennant's outdoor reset and the boiler will operate on a heat demand.
