What is Nora Gold Certified ?
Is it like NATE certified where you have to take a test for each specialty.

I looked at NORA's site and couldn't seem to find the parameters for the certification.

    NORA has several

sites and IMO it's confusing but a necessary evil (npi).

Try this site, it should help you figure it out or call them.

pj, the Criteria here may help answer your question and the link Firedragon posted will certainly answer that and a whole lot more.

Gold Certification: A new publication, Efficient Oilheat, An Energy Conservation Guide, updated in 2004, serves as the guidebook for attaining gold certification. The gold certification is for technicians who are able to move beyond basic installation and repair and can provide a systems analysis of the house, advise customers on equipment needs, and diagnose home comfort problems, as well as provide efficiency recommendations.

    Criteria for Gold Certification

    1. Completion and passage of the Silver National Certificate Program and Exam; or accepted into the Silver National Certificate Program from an Oilheat state association certification.

    2. Minimum of five years work experience as an Oilheat technician verified on company letterhead, signed by company owner or manager

    3. Minimum of 120 hours of Oilheat education training beyond Basic Oilheat Technician courses.

I think this is a fairly good presentation and certification

system..after taking many of the classes the "student" will have made contact with many other professionals and had the benifit of open conversations that bring an exceptional amount of experience to the table. i am generally not into anything that smacks of governmental buracratic reduction of the human being to a number or a clump or herd to be managed according to some other reference to a number some place else however, i think the program does present a fairly comprehensive over view.

    Although NORA

has it's own beaureaucratic system as any association normally does, it is not a 'governmental' agency Weezbo. It's a check-off program like 'Got Milk' or many others.

It appears it just may be renewed and that will be good news if they learn from the mistakes, clean house, make some changes and become what most of us all hoped for, but it's JMO.

    You're very welcome

pj, Basicly the "GOLD" is considered the highest level of certification through NORA. The criteria is listed in my post above. you would need to have passed your Silver in order to "go for the gold" :)

Sorry no Gas Training you need to see Timmie McElwain for that :)

Here's the contents of the NORA Gold Technician Book:

Chapter 1. The Science of Oilheat

    Chapter 2. What is Efficiency?

    Chapter 3. Chimneys and Venting

Chapter 4. Low Cost no Cost Heating System Adjustments

    Chapter 5. Oil Burners

Chapter 6. Boilers, Furnaces and Return on Investment

Chapter 7. Efficient Oil Powered Water Heating

Chapter 8. Minimizing Oil Burner Air Emissions

Chapter 9. Technician Sales: Convincing Your Customer To Invest in Energy Conservation

Chapter 10. Marketing and Selling Heating Equipment

How the course is presented will vary from each instructor/proctor. I have taken both the Gold and Silver and converted them into Power Point Presentations I recommend that a technician get either book in advance and study it for 2 to 3 months. Then my presentation goes on for 2 days, Half the book on day 1 the other half on day 2 and then on the third day we have a morning review then the test. Day 3 is usually just a half day.

I have to get on the road pj so if you have any further questions please feel free to ask I'll check in when I get to my hotel tonight.
