Go to the Gorton website. It is www.gorton-valves.com. You can also speak to Ken Kunz at (908) 276-1323. Gorton makes terrific air and main vents. I highly recommend them. Ken is the expert and now may be time to switch some out, ahead of the next cold season.

    air elimination

Where can I find info to help my customers understand the importance of air elimination.
I had 2 plumbers come in behind me and say the system is ok with the little silver vents and no air seperator.

Bell & Gossett has a good manual on air separation.

    More info

many boilers have built in air separators. Every system does not need a spirovent type air separator. How is it piped? What's the boiler? Who's autovent is installed? Where are they in the system? More info.

    Is this

a steam or hot-water system? I've heard vents for both types described as small and silver.......

    Here's a link

to an article on the B&G web site.

Auto air vents in water systems only work when they are installed on an air separation device like an air purger or a boiler chest where the flow velocity is low. Otherwise they typically only vent air when the pump is off.
