No heat call

I guess the flame retention burners really ARE hotter than the old non-retention burners (duh!)
Here's one I found on a "routine" replacement call right before Christmas this year. HO was just replacing it because it was old - didn't mention any smell or soot problem. We knew it was bad, but never expected to find this!

simple call right
I had a call to a customer's house for no heat. Imagion my surprise when I looked in the view door and saw this. The entire back wall of the chamber had been blasted out and as the pic's show it continued right on through. Never know what you'll find when you get a call...0 -
Did he/she ask you to fix it? :-)
Wow, that was one unhappy boiler... what did the homeowner notice first, the smell, the sight, or the sound of a roaring flame shooting into their basement?0 -
Hardly think that's a BOILER, constantin (NM)

Jed's right
That wouldnt be a boiler...tis a warm air furnace. And no, I was called for a no heat call. While checking the burner to see what was going on I noticed pieces of steel laying in the blast tube. Upon further inspection I found where it came from.... The customer did indicate she had taken the day off from work because of a headache..wonder where it came from...0 -
Heee Heee Heee...
... I guess the attachment names should have given it away. I thought that was the shell, not the whole thing. Oh well, back to work.0 -
The first furnace converted from indirect to direct firing
That will improve it. Now 100% efficient. Can U bring that thing to my house and install it?? Looks like it's got a lot of life left.
Right into the fan compartment!!
hahahahahah

Don't know about anyone else, but I've seen this happen on boilers frequently. In particular, dry-base Van Wert p-series oil fired steam, and W-series oil fired hot water.0 -
Probably safe to assume................
There was no dust buildup on the blower wheel?
Maybe they were trying to invent a new duct cleaning method........yeh, give 'em the benifit of the doubt.
How could you NOT notice something like that!!!???

So any would be nozzle installers ....Theres why not.....
two cresent wrenches or one of those fancy nozzle wrenches like i have dont make ya a burner repairman *~/:)0 -
gets better
These folks had purchased the house a year ago and had a home inspection done. From what I understand the previous owner had maintained the system. There were no service tags on the unit. As to dust, no the blower was free from dust, although you could clearly see where the flame was hitting the front of the box..0
