feed risers to the header, which in turn feeds into your steam mains. If the boiler only has one riser it still needs a header. Like this........

In looking at boiler options, I noticed that very few smaller steam boilers (450 EDR) have two supply connections to feed my two steam mains. The Utica provides two 2-inch take-offs. Would this be of benefit to my steam heat, or is this much ado about nothing?

Just about every Steam boiler I've ever seen

has two supply tappings..even the small ones...although the knock-out is intact...under the jacket, you will find a plugged tapping. By the way...the amount of steam tappings on a boiler have nothing to do with how many mains you have on the system. Yes, in most cases it would behoove you and your system to use both tappings. This will facilitate nice even, dry steam product out to the system. Just make sure to follow the boiler specs. Mad Dog
