boiler additive?

I have been using Stewart Warner's * way boiler treatment for about 10 years. I felt that it was good to help keep the water from shifting a too low Ph. My heating guys doesn't like me using it and claimed it "ate up" the copper on the LWCO and had to replace it under a service contract.
Stewart Warner denies that their product could do this.
anyone ever use this OR think you should not use an additive in a steam boiler?
