I need to separate one 1 1/2" steam pipe that has been in place for 80Yrs. I am afraid of using a torch because of location of joist. I stated valves in a earlier post but this is my real problem.

Cast Fittingd
Check the fittings at the end of the pipe..It should be cast iron fittings which you can crack with two lug hammers...Cast fittings are made with a thick lip at the end...0 -
Spray GENEROUSLY and REPEATEDLY with "cheap" silicon lubricant--it should list "petroleum distillate" as the FIRST ingredient. Douse every hour or two for a day or so.
Then use TWO WRENCHES!0 -
ex. cplg.
leave nipple in place & extend w/ extension coupling or call a plumber0
