Can you describe your system? What sort of heat emitters? Approximate age? Has it been substantially changed over its lifetime?
What fuel? What boiler?

outdoor reset
Have a Burnham gas fired HW boiler newly installed. Any suggestions re:outdoor reset. My plumber says that Taco makes one that's alot less expensive than the Teckmar. What's the difference. Also, I read about systems that continue the circulator pumps after the boiler shuts down so as to take advantage of residual heat. Is this cost effective and advisable?

Gas fired new Burnham boiler with a mixture of cast iron radiators and baseboard.0 -
That's a difficult mix when it comes to reset because they will have significantly different reset curve requirements. It's also quite likely that the iron radiators need a MUCH lower temperature if supplied constantly with heat.
A simple mechanical reset controller [may] prove adequate and give modest gains in efficiency and comfort. Otherwise (if efficiency is the goal) Tekmar makes some amazing control systems that provided proper installation in a properly piped system and with proper adjustment (whew!) will do their best to maximize efficiency even with mis-matched emitters.0
