hydro air question

That's you're personal decision. You touch it, you own it, Right? Can you get in touch with these "aritech" people to get some further understanding of their design? Maybe they know something you don't, but I doubt it. Is this an Engineered job? If you follow their design (if you can), seems to me they are the culprits. I've heard of a few "Engineered" jobs that failed to perform. The installling Sub could not be held responsible. But, you obviously have a conscience. Can't help you there.

    hydro air question

Just looked at a job that has about 6 air handlers ,3 zones baseboard and 1 large radiant zone .I was given a terrible aricotech mechincal drawing with a single weil lgb6 i believe about 650,in . All the coils are only 3/4 and most are ran to god knows where and i have no clue as to who sized what heat lose or gain no clue .The a/c has tons of duct work every where. My main concern is temp diff across the hot water coils and shocking the boiler and of course these units are mostly in the attic so i would think a freeze stat is realistic and some type of water temp modulation with constant circulation is in order .The arihtech is showing what the plumber stated as a 3" main to run around the basement perimeter which i believe was his drawing of the primary loop just going thru the boiler with all the pumps taken off the supply side before a balancing valve and the return just tapped into the return. The home has been under construction for supposely 2 years .Now am i rightfull about these concerns and just being realistic i was contacted to just pipe the boiler room set up all the pumps ,1 large zone of radiant for the kitchen (roughly 1800 sq ft 14 ft cieling ) ,indirect tank and such . Am i a killjoy worring about nothing and the plumber who say just toss it in and get paid right .Am i over thinking it and just do as some one scribled on a piece of paper? The home in question is about 8500 to 10000 sq.ft with a huge indoor pool oh yeah there also stuffing 2 pool heater in also room is about 15 X 20 better news electronic ingition and clay lined mansonary chimmey all exposed .Am i a kill joy negative looking for trouble or what ?peace and good luck clammy

    Sounds like

You have some major reverse engineering to do, saring with a good heat loss calc, and some system flow design work.

    Choose your poison wisely.

So jed am i be truthfull at have some reservation about this supposely scrible design i seem to be the only guy noticing or corcerned about the system working or do you just toss it in and get paid 8 to 12 hours a day at regular billing rate ?Am i a worry wart or should i give up caring about if it works or lasts as long as it does not leak peace and good luck clammy

  • If your experience is making your gut scream, "Watch out!" then I'd suggest you listen...

Without engineering data, a decent plan and [it seems] even the ability to examine the piping, I certainly wouldn't offer any guarantees!

Voice your concerns about "shocking" the boiler and offer your suggestions to compensate for conditions that you can't even determine. If they don't go along, then suggest that even the equipment warranties will be invalid due to improper installation!

    be specific

You are being asked to install a boiler? Or are they asking you to evaluate the system and install a boiler?

If its question #1, then install the boiler with protection against thermal shock.

If it's question #2, put your questions, comments and reservations in writing and then install the boiler with protection against thermal shock.

In any event I would always be specific with a clarification in my proposal that I am respocible for the performance of what I install not any conditions outside of the boiler room.

I wouldn't be so quick to walk away unless you are to busy to be bothered.

You could always do the portion of the work they want you to do. If you have concerns over the performance of the job or the rest of the installation put it in writing what they are and that you are not responsible for them.
