looking for help on a vent issue

Please check this pic to see if something is wrong, besides de cooper pipes near the boiler. My problem is water hammer and hissing sound on valves at radiators. I don't thing the vents valves in the basement are the original. How do i know what size valve to put there to vent the lines the right way.
  • Looks like someone removed the existing vents

then re-installed them. They don't look like recent models.

Measure the length and diameter of each steam main. Since the vents are on the "dry return" lines, measure these too. Post the results here.

And go to the Find a Professional page of this site to locate someone who can pipe that boiler properly.

Is there any chart that will tell me the lengh of pipe and isze of pipe the number needed it for the vent valve. Also the vent valve are in the wet size not in the dry size. Seems to me that way was origionally but I think the valves were replace but the previous owner.
