radiant heat under stone floor

Is this a hot water zone? What water temp is servicing the radiant zone? Is it serviced from the steam boiler, or another source? A heat loss calc will tell you what you are losing, and what you need to be cozy.

radiant heat
Besides the "chitty Chitty Bang Bang" steam furnace issues, while I'm here I'll ask about the radiant heat problem we have.
We had radiant heat installed under bluestone in our addition in 2000, problem is it doesn't heat the room enough. It's approx 20'x20 with 5 sets of french doors (4 leading outside, fifth leads into house)and 12' ceiling. Have been told that perhaps they didn't install enough tubing to compensate for the amount of glass and ceiling height. Anything we can do to correct this?0 -
To add to Tim's comments...
If you have a "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" steam situation, you probably are running at too high a pressure, FYI.
Now, if a hot water zone as we would expect, the tubing spacing is what it is. The only variables you have are:
1) Increasing the water temperature (and flow for the little that also gives you), or,
2) Accepting a lower temperature in the space, allowing that the radiant effect will help on the "perceived comfort" scale.
That said, you should make sure that the water circulation is constant (to avoid swings and to keep charging the floor because it apparently needs it) and bleed in hot water off the boiler as required. I am presuming some kind of mixing device, a valve or injection.
But the short of it is, water temperature is your only realistic variable under your control.
What temperatures are you now running, both water and in the space? How cold has it been in the space?0
