Starting a topic: system efficency? how would you do a hwb system w/ controls (tekmar ?) and piping ----- say 4 zones, indirect fired w/h , hot water castiron direct vent gas boiler, -- all the way from controls and t stats or setpoint to zone piping - circs or zone valves, each zone piped seperate of common feed or return,,, etc------------------3000 sq ft house,, two story, basement boiler ( 1)........ ONE CAST IRON DIRECT VENT non modulating BOILER STANDARD but then no $ limit on other items......

  • which one?

Looking for comfort or enocomy? I opt for cast iron baseboard over copper fin tubing for better comfort..

the boilers afue efficiency will stay the same, but the total system fuel efficiency will be increased. Resetting the boiler temp will only use the amount of fuel needed for the temp outside. Since the baseboard is fast reacting convected heat, I'd try to get as close to constant circulation as possible. Then nobody would notice if the baseboard was on or off, they'd just know they were comfortable. I'd probably go w/ zone valves, just to save a little electric.

    Options?

How about everything but the indirect on one zone (constant circ - rev-par piping) and liberal use of TRVs throughout?
