i am aware of the internal flow restrictions of the ultra and therefore the need for primary secondary. however lately i have found it convenient to pipe the upper piping outlets for the heating side of the job utilizing p&s and the lower outlets for the indirect fired water heater only.
when doing so the indirect tank is actually piped in series with the ultra not in p&s. according to the mfr. specs including the resistence of the tank and boiler along with the properly sized pump i think i should be ok. any input would be appreciated

That's okay
If you look at the piping diagrams, you will see that there is no difference between what you've done and teeing in from the top. From the top, you have a tee feeding the IDWH from the supply and return before the close-tees of your P/S connection. That would make it a series loop.
We pipe them a few different ways, as long as adequate flow is maintained thru the HX everything's good.
My personal Ultra utilizes all four taps. Top supply and bottom return are connected to the heating system and the top return and bottom supply are piped to the IDWH.

I, like Tony
use top and bottom. Sometimes I use bottom and top for indirect, one each, then the opposite for the heating. Makes for a clean indirect hook up. By far the strong point for the Ultra.
