I've been selling servicing and installing boilers for many years.Wood coal and combination boilers and furnaces were very big business back in the last "energy crisis" days.I sold Tarm,Tasso,Stelrad,Northland,Woodway and Burnham's Woodlander. Also Dornbach,Jenson and Woodchuck. These days the big selling wood burning unit is the outside boiler such as Classic and Mahoning which are being sold by non HVAC Pros. I need an update on what to sell when the application is indoor install, high quality like the Tarm and with electric fuel selectability.Anyone have current info and experience. The outdoor boilers are being sold for about $10,000.00 with some tubing and coil for the air side. Never mind payback retirees are buying these like it's a cultural responsibility. I love this Country! Thanks,John in Avella PA>

My suggestion
would be a gasification unit. More efficient, less pollution. Tarm is one of the top names. Greenwood is another, but may not be listed for indoor use.
Be sure to check with the homeowners insurance. Wood burning devices, inddor, of any type are sometimes frowned upon.
Seem to be more Euro gasification units showing up. I have a EKO Vimar in my shop built in Poland. A small micro processor runs a VS induction fan. Very controlable.
I have also sold and installed PK pyro and Atmos both from Czech Republic.
I believe Aquatherm is importing some corn and wood fired gasification units from www.verner.cz. They offer some cute fireplace boilers.
On the Viessmann German website they have some very nice gasification wood burners.
Royall builds a basic pressurized wood boiler in Michigan, even has ASME, but not a gasification style.

Port to bring in combustion air from outside
Do any of these boilers designed for inside use have a sealed port for bringing in outside air for combustion?
Stopped by one of those fancy wood buring stove stores (no boilers) the other day. Asked the sales man if he had any with a port to bring in outside air for combustion rather than drawing combustion air from the house. He had no idea what I was talking about.
Wouldn't this be a good idea or am I completely missing something?0 -
I don't see why not
you couldn't pipe to the fan from outside. The Lochinvar Knight pipes air right to the inducer fan.
