That's the back room of the Darin/Mark complex.

They turn it in with the copper every few months for "mad money" !

Hunt buys Scotch, and Darin takes his girls on outings. He's a nice guy ...isn't he?

Just joking Mark!(really!) Chris

Out with the old in with the new

This was a oil to gas conversion. Dirty Job. Take a look at the old sections taken apart. This was serviced "regularly". Single zone, originally gravity. We built a panel wall off to the right of original boiler position. The boiler we took out was a seven section cast beast. The Prestige is a Solo 110. Think we had a little oversizing going on. We are looking forward to the spring for the fuel consumption report. The Prestige is a very nice mod-con.

    Nice

That's an incredible transformation. Congratulations on a job very well done. That old boiler was a mess.

Out of curiosity, do you have any complaints at all about the Prestige?

    Let me guess....

Was the old tankless being used any longer? I'm guessing that this hog was being used heat only...and severely underfired.

The yellow traces suggest that I'm on the money. The big difference was the flue. Being hooked to a chimney and being underfired and/or used sparingly makes that happen. Am I right? Chris

    Yup

The domestic coil had not been used in fifteen years since that was how old the gas WH was.

From what I could gather after we took the sections apart was that the combustion chamber had a new refractory put in and it was MUCH smaller than the original. The back 4" of the chamber was packed with something(couldn't tell what it was) that blocked the back flue passages. A soot-saw would not have been able to get through the sections. I used a piece of 3/8" rod and pounded it through with a hammer. We had to try to clean it up before we disassembled it. No way that boiler would have fired this fall.

The boiler itself was three times larger than the house needed.

Best part was getting to spend the time working with Darin. He and I took an old steamer out today and set the new WM in place. We haven't had many opportunities to work together in the past few months. Starting next week, Uncle Sam gets him for the next four months.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

    Good one Chris!

I think I get the better end of the deal though. I have NEVER had a glass of scotch ask me "What are you thinking?" or "Why didn't you call me?!".

While we may both wake up with "headaches" somedays, mine go away and don't bother me again for weeks. Darin's....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

    Dobber, We got POed

We got tired of waiting for the GB 142 to have outdoor reset capability. Then when one came out we had to pay hundreds more for the option. No complaints about the boiler itself, it is a fine piece of equipment. We love Buderus product but in the race to get a mod-con on the US market, Buderus - in my opinion - jumped the gun. Indoor reset control just does not fit most typical American heating installs. If you have a large single zone like a radiant floor, or a constant circ panel rad house ( like in Germany ) then it works great.

In the end, if a customer wanted A GB 142 I would have no problem giving them one. It all comes down to bang for the buck and a good payback period for our clientele.

    Roof Shigles

We were waiting to smash all the cans down to reshingle the roof on the trailer. We probably should have used keystone light cause with the "special lining " it really helps cut down on stack effect.

Speaking of my girls. Here is a dating tip : If you get one off the RES, DO NOT, bring them to your folks house and give them homemade hard cider. Magua say, " it bring bear out of sqaw". It bad medicine.

No complaints about the Prestige. But I wish they would lose the bleeder vent with the rubber O-ring on the top of the boiler and replace it with a another style vent. Also the brass tee that is on the top of the boiler always comes crooked from the factory ( they use a leak lock type of sealant ). Aside from the petty stuff it is a top notch piece of equipment.

    Nice job

I like the Prestige a lot. No problems so far....I love changing out the big over sized beast with a wall hung mod con. Gives the customer back some floor space and cuts the gas bill way down. I installed a Munchkin T50 a couple years back, on a job that replaced a clogged up oversized oil fired cast iron beast and the customers heating bill was only 30% of the previous years. Cast iron rads and the outdoor reset helped a lot. Contractors that arent offering mod con boilers in this age of rising fuel costs are doing their customers a dis-service. WW

I always put on a tee up on top with a hose bibb out the side and an auto vent on top. Throw the manual bleeder into inventory. Great unit. No hassels so far.
