All I can say is WOW. As a HO I would be proud to have something as eloquent as that boiler in my house. It needs to be on display working somewhere to show how efficient and safe they can be.

This is one nice lookin boiler, its a shame i have to take it out :-( After they remove the apestos i will keep the boiler i going to put it in the shed and when i have the new shop, i will restore it and i will put in on display.......David

That's a beaut all right... all the cast iron vines and stuff. Is the original ash door available, or did they butcher it for the oil burner

Those round boilers
weren't very efficient, maybe 40-50% on oil or gas according to one of my Dead Men's Books. The large, short flue passages let lots of heat escape up the chimney. It's possible the new boiler (with proper main vents etc) will cut fuel consumption in half.
But that old Crawford is nice to gaze at.....

patent date seems to say feb. 1898.

That is REALLY old. I didn't notice a lwco. Did it have one? I have seen lots of square boilers with fancy doors etc. but never saw a round one like that.
Thay must have had a lot of fun putting those togeather. Must have been difficult to get the sections squared up to pull togeather on top of each other like that.
Makes the case for push nipples over rubber gaskets!

sand blast it and refinish it and use it as a Radiator...
