Is low sulfur (500ppm) heating oil available? I've been trying to track down suppliers on long Island without any luck. Thanks. Rich

    You may have better luck

looking for low sulphur off road diesel, on road will have to be <15 soon but the off road may still ahve >500PPM but that will change soon too to <500PPM. I think we now are getting the 500PPM off road but it could be a tad higher from the supplier at times.

  • Low-sulphur diesel has been mandated on the west coast for a while and is soon to be mandated for the east coast if not the rest of the country.

I have not heard of nor can find similar for fuel oil and I seriously doubt you'd want to pay the extra tax on diesel fuel just to run a condensing oil boiler...

    Mike T.

Here we have 500PPM diesel known as off road and it is not taxed as On Road Diesel, yes a tad more expensive than #2 Fuel Oil but not unreasonable. It is also sold as Moble Home Fuel around here. I was trying to warn that it might not be availble everywhere as 500PPM at this time but worth looking into. When I worked Road Construction we would buy on road diesel and keep track of gallons used off road and get a rebate at the end of the year another thing to look into until the real deal is available.
