Hemp

on sealing BSP versus NPT threaded joints and am intrigued by the use of hemp versus lampwick.

Every supply house in my area has a version of lampwick (looks like the soft cotton twine carried by mail carriers years ago). I have been reluctant to try it on the Vitodens and want one good shot at the recommended practice. The Vito came with a small tube of pipe dope but no hemp as was suggested. I have seen hemp twine, is that the same stuff or is this something made specifically for the trades for this purpose?

Does anyone have any hemp to spare? Enough to do several, ahem, joints. (No twigs, no seeds, dude.)

Anyone want to be a good Doobie?

being lucky enough to live in the "ahem" hemp capitol of North America, we tend to have a few hemp shops. Makes great clothes and other wonderful products. I bought a roll of the thinnest hemp twine I could find in one of the shops, but alas, it was too thick. Now I use it to hold up my tomatoe vines!

i have to think if they been growing a couple years and you aint seeing any tomatoes you may need to hire on a new horticulturalist.. once they are 10 foot tall ya just might have found a valuable source of Lamp wick:)

So, Leo, the "Hemp Capital of North America"- I would think that would be Kentucky, but it might be Oakland, CA

Weezbo- my condolences on the short Alaskan Growing Season. I suppose if the plants do not bear fruit you have some inherent consolation
