Take the attitude and teach them the trade. Treat 'em right and have a loyal employee. Some experience, if not bad, is better than none. And, a bad attitude will cost you over and over and over.

Well I have been interviewing plumbers for the last couple of days and the picking is very slim. It seems like the guys with a good attitude lack experience and the guys with good experience lack good attitude. I hope someone decent comes through these doors in the next couple of days.

I always say the same thing

I can teach them the trade ... Mom and Dad teach them the attitude and some time do a poor job.

The worse legacy of the baby boom generation is how we've raised our kids. Not All , but a good group hav'nt been taught the right things.

    And, on the flip side

I was "invited" by several of my former competitors to interview for jobs in my home town. None would even come close to matching my current salary. Not to say I have it all, but I have 4 Master's licenses, 30+ years of experience, 11 years in my own biz, good sales / customer relations skills, and good work ethic. This is why locally most of the good, skilled trades people have come to work in the D.C. Metro area. The hometown boys have yet to figure out that they have to charge serious money to make any money. I had the same problem when I was in the biz, and it has really gotten desperate in the last 10 years or so. I feel your pain, Bro!

Wanna move to Washington Mikey? I wish...

You know I am willing to pay some good money for someone with qualifications and a good attitude. All I am really looking for is someone with a residential plumbing card that wants to learn radiant. That shouldn't be hard to find being as one only needs 4000 hours logged to get a res card.

Oh well I am going to hold out until I find the right guy or gal. If only I didn't need someone with a license.
