New ASME Boiler Code

All Boiler CSD-1 Testing must be performed by a licensed mechanical installer. Not by a (qualified individual) a licensed mechanical installer. Boiler license not required. Now who is writing the law ? This will be in effect the end of this year.

The good and bad about the ASME process

Don't blame it on the governemnt. They keep their hands out of the ASME code.

The code committees are largly various industry representatives along with utility representatives. They all have vested interest. The Mfr's want things that favor them, Inspection companies want things that favor their area, Utilities want things to be easy, etc (and I've even heard of the Unions having representation in some cases).

I know 3 people on code committees.

In general this merging of all the interest provides great ballance and overall benifit; but...

What often happens, is that the groups are sitting on their favorite proposal - and when someone who oposes it can't make a meeting... it passes.

So, I'll bet a group representing these installers has been building support for something like this behind the sceens for years - and then banged it through when more resonable people were not there.

Lesson learned - the hard way - at our plant. You gota get the people to the code meetings or things can get expensive.
