Interesting conversation with my local contractor

Today I picked up the bid for a conventional boiler replacement (83%) with 40 gallon SS hot water tank on the side. About $7000.
Then we had a long discussion about boiler technologies; where the Mod-Cons are going, how they are the real future for most applications; quality of different equipment, etc.
He is actually open to good new technology, but is cautious; and I think I convinced him that participation in this forum would put him in touch with other people in business who could help him in various things.
He did appreaciate that I approached him with a quality alternate boiler instead of some of the lower quality options; and is willing to acquire and install whatever boiler I am willing to use as long as I stayed with known brands with decent reputations (and we discussed a few options).
Anyway; I have not ruled out the Mod-Con, and told him I wished to investigate the Ultra.
I did tell him that his price seemed high on the Vitoden; and he did not object to that statement.
Anyway, thought I would let you all know.
There is one issue we talked about related to potential quality of Mod-Cons that I will post in a separate thread after I have gathered some more data.
