high efficiency condensing boilers

The Lockinvar Knight,Munchin and Trinity boilers all have the same block I have talked to the tech at Trinity and Lockinvar. The Munchin is floor mount with optional stand. The Trinity is wall hung. The Lockinvar maybe both not sure.Condensate has been a problem with Munchin and Trinity, Lockinvar is the new boy on the block and has addressed the condensate problem with a massive collection unit base at the bottom of the boiler.Trinity has addressed the problem with a new trap shipped with their Ti-150 and Ti-200 not sure about Munchin. All boilers to me will run fine if they are setup right as per Hot Rod has said take the training.Second invest in a good combustion tool such as Bac Profire 125 around 1000.00.To me this is the only boilers to install with indirect hot water heater tank.I have a Trinity install for a member of the Church I go to gas usage for Nov. 2004 was 6.4 cft per day on average with 80% boiler and gravity vented hot water heater, with the Trinity and indirect gas usage was at 2.3 cft per day for Nov.2005 the average temp outside was 4 degrees warmer in 05 hope this helps.

    hello
I'm thinking about installing a high efficiency condensing gas boiler in someone's home I've never installed anything but 80% types. any brand recommendations. and what kind of quirks or problems are involved. will I need any kind of special instructions to set it up or are there and extra considerations like primary secondary pumping for example. from reading this website, seems like a few guys have had trouble with noisy gas valves especially with the munchkin. hope there are'nt any munchkin fans that mind my saying that.

    Can't say

that there is any brand that I would stay away from.

It would be a big plus if you could attend a manufactures training.

Mod cons are a much different animal than what you are used to.

Venting is different. Piping is different. Adjusting and start up is different.

Trial and error methods prove to be a headache for you and the customer as you have probably noticed here form many of the posts :)

Pick a handful of brands and go to their website to locate training at the factory or a dealer near you, would be my best advice.

Lochinvar, is one I would check out......................

Lochinvar Knight. After factory tour and a day of training on the Knight I was very impressed with the product. Many sizes and good support.

The Buderus GB 142 has been excellent for us....................

High Quality and reasonably priced for the common folk. THis is the most recent one we have done and need to go back and wrap it up, but it has been up and running for about six weeks. Starting another one for my mom's house this week. We are doing one for a snowmelt system next month and we have another 4 out there that are in over a year. No problems and now we can do full Outdoor reset. Mad Dog

Good advice. Take a look at the Prestige. Killer engineering and pricing.

    I'm loving the Prestige

I still have been installing the Munchkin too though. I think it should be the law to make the highest efficiency equipment required. Installing mod cons helps save energy. Chicks dig'em too. :)
