Gas Furnace: machine gun noise.

Hi,

My gas furnace caught on fire this morning. It is because the vents were not cleaned and the combustion went sideways causing a small fire. No damages. I turned the gas off and the electricity going to the furnace. When I turn the electricity back on, a loud noise, like a machine gun, goes off. What is this noise?

Thanks!

If no combustion and only electricity

I suspect something fell into the fan scroll. The rapid regular cycling leads me to think this. Sort of like a .50 Cal M2, right?

    cooked

Could have over cooked the draft inducer as well... just follow the noise to the problem... Also sounds like a bad proven switch .The burner should not have fired with a plugged vent....Call a pro

    Furnace machine gun noise

Does the unit have spark ignition? If so that's what it sounds like when it's trying to light

    Relay

Could also be a control relay chattering. Regardless I hope you get someone qualified to come out and look things over for you. Sound like a dangerous situation.

The noise seems to come from the front of the furnace. Looks like where the gas valve is.

    Furnace noise

Turn off the light, go back upstairs and call the Marines. Machine guns can hurt you...
