Vapor Steam System

Would anyone know what type of Vapor system this is?
Got to love the near boiler piping and the only air vent on the entire system. A Hoffman #6.
And guess why 1/3 of the house does not heat!

I think you're right, Gerry
There are bushing traps in those radiator ells. This is an older water-seal Vapor system, possibly made by Vapor Regulator Co. There appears to be some lettering on the face of the bushing, were you able to decipher it or anything on the shutoff valves?
The vent is way too small, looks like it's installed on some sort of collector tee, but I can't see all of it.
What is coming thru the wall below the ends of the mains? Could it be a steam pipe that used to serve an outbuilding like a garage?

Sure it's not
"V.R.Co."? Or maybe "V.E.Co"?

No, definetly said VAPOR! Even checked all the radiators.

Might be Broomell then
they cast "Vapor" into everything, but I didn't think they used bushing traps, or it could be one of those systems someone put together with parts from different sources (I've started calling these "Vernacular" Vapor systems).... regardless, it's a water-seal system. The knuckleheads probably tore out the regulator, condenser etc.
Those drip loops took the place of drip traps.
Vent it like I did on that VECO and you should be fine.

radiator valves?
Hi Jamie,
Interesting system to be sure. Any original handvalves left on any of the radiators? Most Vapor systems used a specific inlet valve in conjunction with their vapor device. If they aren't there, it may cause problems.
Definitely improve the venting, but pressure control and steam distribution should be considered also.
Best regards, Pat0
