HELP - with piping for Weil-McLain GoldCGt gas boiler
A plumber converted my oil burning system to gas and installed a Weil-McLain GoldCGt gas boiler. It has not worked right since installation 8 months ago. I have called Weil McLain directly who said the problem is in the piping, not the unit. They recommended this website as I haven't been able to resolve the problem with the installer.
Old brick rowhouse has a 2 zoned heating system (1st and 2nd floor). The thermostats work. New TACO Flochek valves have been installed on the returns and supplys of each zone (4 Flochek valves total).
Problem: The heater is not listening to the thermostat on the 2nd floor(zone 2). It is set at 55 degrees and the boiler kicks on and makes the radiators (baseboard hot water) red hot regardless of the temperature setting. The installer had me disconnect the thermostat wires for this 2nd zone (untwist the yellow and black wires)which isolated the problem but did nothing to stop the flow of hot water into those baseboards. So, I shut off the return and supply valves to the second floor. The installer hasn't returned my calls and I'm afraid he's given up leaving me with this system that doesn't work.
Before the 2nd floor heaters started to go on, there was a lot of noise - air bubbles going to the expansion tank and banging in addition to something that sounds like its spinning.
I appreciate any help you can offer and have taken photos of the system if you'd like to see it. I just don't know where to turn.
Thank you,

check find a pro
first off it sounds like it's just may be a wiring issue ,if this is a 2 zone system with 2 circulators then there should be either 1 multi circulator relay board or if it's zone valves then there should be another externally mounted transformer and it should be the proper VA to drive 2 zone valves .If the original installer will not come back then he's probalby not the guy to fix it .You can use the find a pro listing onm this site and it will give you a professinal near you for you to contact ,all these pro on this site would be able to figure it out it seems like it may just be a control wiring promblem unless it is also piped completely wrong .It would help if you could post a piciture or two of what she looks like .Peace and good luck clammyR.A. To bad to take a good boiler and make such a mess. Supply tee between flow checks is bullheaded.
What kind of radiation do you have? Fin tube baseboard, Cast Iron Radiation, radient heat?
I don't think you should have the three way diverting valve on this system unless you have radient heat and even then it isn't piped correctly. If baseboard or CI remove the diverting valve and go primary secondary pumping.
Expansion tank?? I didn't see it. ???
You really need to find a pro and have this fixed by someone who knows what he's doing.

Hello Beth
Beth, you need to get a pro in there, thats a very good boiler, but that piping is a MESS,you need to go to the left on the pipe list at the top and find a pro , just put in your zip code and call one of the ones closest to you, you will be problem free, comfortable when they are done...David
