#3 is the fastest setting...you may just be hearing the flow of the water. Try #2 or #1 (lowest). I was advised that if all rads heat, the lower setting is fine, but you need to be sure the return temp does not fall too far below the supply, or boiler temp.

    Loud gurgling when heater starts

I get a loud gurgling noise when my heater starts up. The pressure is fine, but I noticed that I've been needing to bleed my upstairs bathroom radiator ( the smallest in the house ) several times since turning the heat on. Any suggestions of what may be causing this ?? The heater works fine and the gurgling quiets down after about 15 seconds.

Have you replaced water lately? could be gases from the water. Gurgling is air. Keep bleeding or install an air separator.

    gurgling

Would suspect a gland on the suction (inlet) side of the pump is allowing air to be sucked into the system, or have you replaced the pump or changed the speed of the pump to run faster lately??

I installed a new pump last year, and that seems to be running OK. How would I go about adjusting the speed of the pump ?? Thanks for your suggetions.

If it is a variable speed pump, there will be a selector switch on the junction box with 1, 2, and 3 being the settings.

    Switch setting

I checked the switch setting and it is at 3. Should it stay at 3 or should I change it to a lower setting. Again, thanks for your help.

The difference in the temperature between the flow (water leaving the boiler) and the return (water coming back from the rads) should be approx 20deg F with all rads valves wide open, if any returns on the rads are hotter than that the regulationg valve on the return of the rad should be closed down a bit. The object is to get a even drop over all the rads. I suggest you slow the pumpo down to speed 1 and see how it goes.

    pump speed

Thanks for your suggestions. I am assuming I change the speed of the pump while the pump is off ??
