If by new you mean two days, then yes it was new. First time I have EVER had any problems with Riello burner parts.

    Riello Post-Purge Problem

I have just installed a Buderus boiler with a Riello BF3 oil burner. It worked fine for a few weeks, but now the flame stays lit during post-purge, which effectivly cancels out post purge. Since I am direct venting, I get a nice blast of smoke and smell each time the burner shuts off.

I checked all the wiring and it looks okay. I can hear the relay click, like it wants to kill the oil valve, but apparently oil keeps coming. The problem is somewhat intermittant, every once in a while the oil stops and the flame goes out. But mostly the flame stays lit, although it's not a strong as the normal flame, it flutters somewhat. Also, there is a whining noise when the burner wants to go into post purge.

I suspect the problem is a stuck oil valve or a bad relay in the AL1009 module. But I am not an oil tech. Has anyone seen this problem before?

    Have you performed comb. tests?

While it's nice to think that every gun is set up to run hastle free, combustion test's are critical. Do you have an oil cumb. test kit? Your problems may have started from day1....

Exact same problem last month. Solution was new AL1009 (the one with the resistor) and a new oil valve. It was sticking partially open during post purge. It coated the chamber with oil. Made for a mess in the dv application it was in. New board, new valve no more problem.

Thanks for the info. Was it a newer unit? It's hard to believe that a 2-month old boiler/burner would have this problem. Although on the other hand I need to replace the mixing unit due to a crack in the three way valve housing. Maybe Buderus/Riello have quality control problems.
