Furnace Shakes Floor

Has this been a problem in the past? On new installations and many old ones, a canvas connector on the return drop and the supply plenum prevents resonance traveling up the duct and into the living space. If it wasn't a problem before, stick to finding something wrong.

Furnace Shakes Floor - Please Help
I have a 20 year old Heil 50,000 BTU heating system installed in my basement on a concrete floor. When the furnace turns on, the kitchen floor above the heater vibrates so bad that I can see ripples in a glass of water on the kitchen table. Recently, a local heating company installed a new blower fan, which was supposed to solve the problem. This cost $170 and did not reduce the vibration at all. The sides of the furnace shake slightly, but it does not feel like enough to shake the kitchen floor. Nor does the furnace contact the floor beams above it, although the ducting does. Does anyone have ideas as to the source of this vibration? Please help...I am really annoyed.0 -
Squirrel cage
How about the motor mounts or bushings for the squirrel cage? Just a thought.

pretty much has to be the
blower or shaft or motor mounts. Blower could be unbalanced, shaft could be bent or motor mount not attached properly or worn0 -
Is the belt new? Could be missing chunks. Run the motor without the belt and see if it shakes. How about the framework the squirl cage mounts to...all tight?

What about
A piece of paper stuck in the blower wheel, or my personal favorite a mouse stuck between the fan blades. Best Wishes J.Lockard0 -
there are alot of minor techniclities...
so lets just start somewhere and dial through a few...one is lint on the squirll cage after 20 years ,this will cause an imbalance and Opp There it is.
another is the motor mounts the cage was dirty then the bolts rattel loose Bammm ! Thats the ticket
alignement no straight no mojo... Eeeek eeeek eeeeek then it all comes to a Screeeeeeeching Smouldering Halt....
Then comes Bddddddrrrrt bddddrrrrt screeeeech bddddrrrrt Got absolute Jack to do with the fan... everything to do with the oil pump and associated pieces of drives connecting it to the motor.( for the oil enthusiasts).
OOps! wrong temp differential waba wabwa waba CLUNK SPRANG!...o GOSH DOES THAT HAPPEN EVERY TIME? NO ONLY WHEN WE TURN THE HEAT ON. that is not funny either from another stand point that observation may have been made from alot of dead people....
bearings are some noisy sun of a guns also.
pullys that arent given the right tweak with a belt drive motor..alignement* huge fan and motors i line and miKe and check back in an hour for sound....i have heard beacoup racket and the like all caused by lack of oil, loose drift pins, set screws, nut on floor mount fans...
anyone See Level in this place Yet? You Say! I have some of My marbles left jack here and i throw them on the ground....ok so if you say its level then can you explain the marble over in that corner of this room and one over There and these other two milling around the floor and That one thats going around and around in circles like its headed down a drain>?
There are alot of things and i really cant transfer every one of them or how To fix them either it sorta requires some one who likes that road game to actually be there on the spot to twist a wrench and get you back on target... while there are indeed many talents among the Pros at this site in a way their experience cant be absorbed by osmosis exactly.
really you get a second opinion on the deal...it would most likely nab you the right guy with the wherewithall to ajudicate the pieces you now have..0 -
I had an entire plastic grocery bag in a rental furnace. shook the whole house! That happens with no filter.

Does the vibration start
when the fan starts, or when the burner starts?
