47-2

I had a service call on a new McDonnell miller 47-2 that vibrates while it feeds water. The noise carries thru the pipes. McDonnell miller recomended to remove the globe valve and install a ball valve, thus redcucing the backpresure on the 47-2. I have my doudts that this will solve the problem. Has anyone had this problem? What do you think?
Thanks, Tom LI

water pressure
What do you have for water pressure? Municipal water or private well? If the pressure is too high you might try a pressure reducing valve.

47-2
Hi Bill
That was my first thought, when i suggested that to the customer today he said his presure is low, but i will put a gauge on it tomorow.

Piping
Make sure that it's piped in correctly. In to in and out to out.

air chamber
a 47-2 is a quick closing valve. a shock arrestor or air chamber could solve the problem0 -
Also check
the valve cartridge if used. This screws into the valve body and is accessible by removing the strainer. If it's loose it will vibrate.

That is the
sloppy poppet trying to seat in the Valve & Strainer Assembly. Install a pressure reducing valve before the 47. Problem solved. Same cure for noisy 51's.

47-2
I also would install a pressure reducing valve. It will also help from the boiler flooding.0 -
Yes.......The 47-2
Is our ONLY choice on water feeders. That being said, when they do feed you can get a jackhammer effect on the domestic water piping.... because they will feed whilst boiler is running....with the normal water level fluctations of a steaming boiler. Choke it back with a globe valve or ball valve. It is better to feed a "thirsty" steam boiler slowly anyway. Mad Dog0
