Thanks everyone for your replies on piping a buffer tank.
I am looking for an 80 gallon model with 2 2" NPT boiler tappings and 2 1.5" NPT system tappings.
Does anyone know of a manufacturer of a tank that meets that criteria and doesn't cost a fortune?
Thanks
Jim

Jim you could tap a Hot water tank....

    with 3/4" holes and 2 1" element holes,and use 3/4"ips to 1" copper adaptors in the 4 3/4" holes and 2 i"ips to 1& 1/4" male copper adaptors.

then step the function to and from the tank from the boiler by using two zones off the 4 tappings, one zone at the top one zone through the tank from top to bottom, check the 1 1/4" at the lower element ,and run the top tap out to the field, with a modulating bypass on the boiler loop to maintain a partial differential on your system.

i would like to post a picture for you buh i am really bad at sweedish or whatever this lexmark printer scanner copier thing happens to be having the entire sequence of events and directions written in for homeowner satisfaction :)

you can get alot of flow through that 1 1/4 .

indirects with 2' taps are spendier proposition. and ones with two coils for the most part in the 2" size cost a veritable Fortune.the list price is going into healthy 5 didgit figures.

Bock sells a storage tank that has 3 2" connections and a 3/4 T&P". Also, 2 tappings for anode rods. How would you recommend piping something like that? It's the ST80

    I think all the comercial

tank sellers: American Water Heater, Rheem, Lochinvar have a 3 port 2" 80 gal glass lined tank. Some even have a 1.5 tapping for the T&P valve.

Rheem has an ST80 storage tank which has 2 2" boiler connections and a 2" hot water connection on the top, as well as a 1" and 3/4" tappings on the top of the tank. Which would be better for the system inflow and outflow? (Tap the 2" for outflow to zones and the 1" and 3/4" for inflow from returns)? Would I just tee the 1.5" return pipe to the 3/4" and 1" tappings in tank?
