Steam balancing act

a question, in my ongoing saga:
Uneven heat to the third floor. Seems like an easy way to vent my risers at the top floor (3rd) would be to put a Gorton D on the first radiator column, and then a slower vent on the far end of the radiator, where an air vent usually goes. I haven't seen this recommended anywhere--has anyone had experience with "main venting" in this manner?
