steam boiler and indirect

You going to use the tankless coil to feed the indirect?
Absolutely a "killer application" IMHO. I didn't invent the arrangement, but have put in a ton and write a newsletter for a local supply house. If you'd like the drawing, it may already be in Dan's archive and if not, I can e-mail it to you.

I'm no expert
on sizing , but I beileve you want to size the boiler for the steam load alone . Sizing the boiler larger than that will give you nothing but troubles on the steam side of things .
2 things working in your favor would be the pickup factor built into the boiler rating and if you prioritize the indirect . Good luck on the project Ed .0 -

Hi Ed,
I wrote this for your job a while ago. I've just been waiting for you to ask.
Only kidding.

Ken , if you don't mind
can you email it to me also ? Do you have to set up the coil as a boiler system - feeder , expansion tank , all the goodies ? Thanks .0 -
indirect and steam
was not planning to use the tankless coil problem is i want to use an eg55 whch would be a little bit small for the load and if i use an eg65 it will be to big the connected load is 571.5 sq ft the eg55 is rated for 508 sq ft the eg 65 is rated for 633 sq ft

Indirect won't effect your decision.
It'll work with either choice.
tough choice........

Ed,
I cheat a lot on EDR ratings, because of the 1.33 "pick-up" factor most makers (W/M being among them) add-in. Unless someone is doing 15° night setback or more, about half that can be discounted. But your spread's too far for the 55 IMO. Do the 65 and be sure you stay out of court (;-o)
Attached is my plan for D/H/W for a zone, indirect or any other separate load you may need. The tankless coil is by far the better way. It is a closed system and will last longer than the boiler. When you use the "open" method directly off the boiler water, the same crap that contaminates and kills circ. pumps and small passes will continue and shorten life to a few years max. - as well as present huge problems where lift is great. Not so with the indirect method

Sorry,
I just realized I did that drawing in "MSWord," over 8 years ago - and modified it for a steam and radiant job Dan hooked me up with involving the former house of J.P.Morgan.
One of these days I'll have to use current software to update the drawing.
