burnham le vs weil mclain sgo

Installed one in my house when we built it.

It has been running like a champ.

Conventional chimney and firing a Riello.

Very little maintanence required. Do pay attention to the bypass pipe size as condensation can be issue.

We also has a sealed combustion unit at a customers house that did give us problems. In honesty I would have to say most of the problems were do to the install.

    boiler choice

No comparison in my book..two totally diferent pieces of equipment. I am not a Burnham fan and have seen too much and know I would always install a Weil first. I just rebuilt an LE today and it's very tempermental and will condense like crazy if not properly installed (as will any boiler). I even had an LE then couldn't be adjusted no matter what was tried and had to be replaced. Why are you comparing a low mass, supposedly high efficiency unit against a Weil GO which has significantly higher water content?

    Thanks Al

you beat me to the key board ! I agree completely with Al. Though I haven't replaced one yet I don't think they have a long life!

    Hey Ed

I have installed two of the LE's now and both units are running excellent. I did follow installation instruction very closely. Both unit's have been in service over the winter now without a single call. They are both scheduled for a annual service in the next month so I will have a better insite into how they are doing then. The customer's are both extremely happy so far..
I do also install the Weil and have excellent luck with them also.

    I've got

quite a few out there dating back 5 or 6 years. No problems. I have also used the direct vent version and no problems there either.

Nice warranty on the LE too.

If you're not comfortable with the equipment though........

You might consider trying one sometime. At 325 lbs. it is a heck of a lot easier gettin' in the basement.

I was glad to see the good comments on the LE. I had great experiences with this boiler during my Burnham days. And I am also glad that a great bunch of welders will not be put on the street. I think the LE is one of the best kept secrets out there. It can take a 120 F return temperature. With NY state energy package I think it gets 87%. And it may even be doing better with some of the new Beckett equipment.

I just really hope that the equipment bashing on The Wall would be a little more constructive. We all have our favorites and alliances. I am sure the Weil Gold is a great boiler also. One thing to keep in mind with all the products, especially the American made units - your bashing may be costing someone a job at the factory. So I suggest that when you bash, you have already exhausted all possiblities for direct factory contact.

One of my first lessons as a "green" engineer was at Newport News Shipbuilding and it was from a of age to retire Engineering Manager - Ewell Williams. He told me the story about glass houses and throwing rocks.

I really like The Wall as a great place to trade information and learn. But I also know the impact and responsiblity that goes along with posting here.
