Ultra Fin

wow, are you serious? That's even worse than the company having no idea what they are doing (which was my charitable assumption).

    Ultra Fin

Has any one ever used Ultra-Fin for floor heating. It looks like an interesting product.
    Thanks

    Watch Out

The output claims are at best questionable with the "independent" verification rather suspect.

Except the system to operate at high temperature with the boiler cycling frequently on high limit.

As with any suspended application, MUCH depends on how highly and how carefully you insulate the joist spaces.

    ultra fin

This is a pretty controversial system. Use the search function here to pull up a lot of discussion.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    Charts

The charts in the literature show some pretty significant outputs. I think that the catch is that these figures are total output from the fin and not the output of the floor. This means that some portion of the stated output may be downward loss. A floor in typical conditions only puts out about 2 btu per square foot per degree of difference between it and the operative temperature of the space.

    Yes, He's Serious

Here's one of the output tables from their website. Search history here. Believe that someone found the method used in the third-party testing. If I recall properly it amounted to output of the fin and tube itself with the test floor construction under little if any load.

  • Wow, that's really amazing that you can gain 14 BTUs/sq ft by raising your water temps 30 degrees and DROP your floor temperature 1 degree!

    Wow!

I'm going to go call all my clients and have them jack up their water temperatures to cool down their floors!!!

Sometimes, you just gotta shake your head.

Also notice what's lacking. No mention of load on the system. Those indoor temps were created by something else--NOT the ultra-fin.

Even if "verified", claims from misleading tests or studies tend to make me highly skeptical and wonder just what's being glossed over.

Study what they say (and don't say) at the website and make your best judgment. Remember that rapid heating of the air inside a joist cavity says almost nothing about what happens in the space being heated.

    Would seem to useless

    in a condensing source application.
