Our local ACCA chapter (ACCA-NCC) is sponsoring the installation of a complete mechanical system for this Habitat for Humanity project in Vienna, VA. Wirsbo was kind enough to donate all of the radiant materials for this job. We are installing tubing in the slab on grade and using Joist Trak plates for the second floor. A wall mounted condensing boiler (brand to be determined, looking for donations) will supply the system. We will also be installing a high velocity A/C system with a Carrier unit donated by Carrier Mid-Atlantic. I will post more photos as this one progresses. -DF

    Kudos Dan

But how did you convince Habitat to install radiant? My knowledge of these homes is that they are cookie cutter and use the basic GFA systems. I'm curious as to how this project was approved.

BTW I saw you at the RadFest but you were too engrossed in conversation.

    Hi John,

I saw you as well at Radfest. You were sitting two rows in front of me during the guest speaker presentation. Hopefully I will see you at Radfest East if not before then.

I had no problem getting the radiant into the package. I submitted a complete design featuring radiant floor heat and they accepted it without question. This project may be different than a typical HFH project as they are using an outside vendor as a construction manager. This is not a "weekend warrior" type project. -DF

    location

do you know how habitat got the lot? It looks like the developer donated the lot closest to the highway to habitat. It looks like a pretty fancy neighborhood for habitat to buy the lot.

    Giving back

All the habitat for humanity homes within the NorthWest are all radiant and green. We have been working on extending throughout the outlining chapters through education.
