Install ball valve in boiler skim tapping?

I am about to replace my old steam boiler and note in Dan's book that cleaning the boiler requires opening the skimming tap at or above the water line.
Is there any reason not to leave a nipped and ball valve installed there for future boiler cleanings? It seems that it might be hard to remove the plug after years of corrosion develop. It seems that the same would make sense for the mud drain.
I want to make sure my boiler is piped with log term maintenance in mind.
Should I spec a Vapostat instead of the standard pressuretrol? My boiler is heating around 475 EDR with one pipe steam.

Thats what I do
Just plug the valve when your done using it0 -
I agree. Install the valve, but plug the open end. Use teflon paste or tape on the plug and don't bury it into the valve. You can then remove it easily when needed. As for the vaporstat, I would keep the pressuretrol, just be sure to turn it down.(Approx. 1/2 lb. on the cut-in, and 1 on the differential).0
