thanks for the responces the heat exchanger was pluged and we ended up replaceing the boiler with a Baxi unit , the venting was a tight needed concentric vent 4" to fit ,and the home runs on baseboard system and domestic hot water with an indirect heater , home owner cant beleive how quiet the new boiler is .

Hydropulse
have a 100 hydrotherm boiler boiler cant seem to get more than a pop out of the combustion chamber , have gas, spark and air , though the air coming from the exhaust is only a light breeze , the unit only has a pressure switch and a timer that the spring has broken off of , the venting is only an 1 1/2 pipe and the unit is 100 mbh, tried to flush combustion chamber and it will build pressure before water runs out the lower exhaust vent , have checked the hydrotherm web site and they list the newer stlye but not this one is about 20 years old.0 -
The spring wound
timer was recalled within the first year but that does not mean they did not work. I still have 2 boilers operating with that device.
I am intimately familiar with the "howling moose".
What procedure did you use to "flush" the boiler? Are the rest of the boiler components original?
Contact me directly if you like. I will help as much as I am able.0 -
If you install a manometer.....
on the pressure proving switch you should read between 1.5"-2.0"w.c. during pre-purge, 1.7"w.c. is normal. A lower reading would indicate an air inlet seal leak, inlet blockage or slow fan speed , a high reading would indicate a flue blockage. The air/gas flapper discs are supposed to be replaced occaisionally and there is also a flame trap below the air/gas assembly that should look like a spring all wound up in a circle. And thats about all I remember about Hydropulse boilers. Normal operating pressure at the pressure proving switch is about 38"w.c., yes, thirty eight inches, with sustained combustion.0 -
If your getting water...
out the bottom exhaust vent then the HX has failed... the combustion chamber has flooded and the flapper discs are wet.
That often happens during the winter, but the heat of the HX keeps the water evaporated.... then in the spring the boiler shuts down long enough to flood the sucker and you's gots problems!!!!
Take off the top sheet metal, then the fiberglass, then the four nuts that you see there. Now the plate that you see is 1/4" plate steel and it will be stuck fast!!!! take a big screw driver and wedge it in along the side and turn it with a wrench to break the plate loose. Lift the plate out and do the same thing with the blower. Under there you will find the flooded mixing chamber and combustion chamber. If you dry everything out you may get the thing to fire, but only as long as it runs enough to keep things dry inside.
Long story, short... sell them an Ultra boiler..you'll get the same eff. and modulation to boot. Plus you'll silence that mateing moose forever......

now just a minute there partner, what kind of pay-back is that on a state of the art high efficiency condensing boiler. <:) bob0 -
If the spring
is broken, the timer will not rewind. As these units get older they usually require more than one trial for ignition. Try manually resetting the timer to see if the unit will start after more than one trial for ignition.0 -
hydropulse service.
If no water in flue outlet and condensate flows out tube properly. Try replacing flappers and spark plug, at least clean spark plug but definately replace flappers. Make sure gasket is good on mixing chamber which holds flappers. If leakage around gasket they will not fire. gl Tim.0
