And those furry SOB's are at it again

Many of you may remember my fights with the woodchucks. Well this spring has started out better than last year.

    Winter storm brewing

Doom and gloom predicted in the Great Lakes Sat-Sun. Could be meterologist hype. But the snowblower is ready, just in case.

We have light snow falling up here as we speak. Wind is dead north at about 25mph and it's 31* with a wind chill of 19. NICE day! I was going to try and do yard work but I'm betting that I'll have a bunch of no heat calls instead.

Yep: First no heat at 7:48AM. The ancient furnace at the Post Office..........

To put it in perspective for you, think of a hole large enough that a small bear could hibernate in. OK? Now think of a person expending much time and effort on a veggie garden only to have one of these four legged mowing machines move in and level it in 2 days time. One of the farmers I know drove the front wheel of his tractor into a woodchuck hole that was hidden in a field of tall hay last year. Snapped the front spindle right off. About $450 and half a day wasted later, he had kind of an attitude toward these "harmless" critters.

    Yeah, but

stick a finger in there & you'll see just how friendly a ground-pig gets! When Mike was about 6, we built a live-trap for the critters under our shed. Neighbor told Mike his trap would never work. First day we put it out, we had the first one - a big old mean-as-a-snake ground-pig. Mike ran to the neighbors house shouting for Dennis and, in his excited state, ran right through the screen door! Dennis was a good sport and couldn't help laughing till he bout fell down.

We caught all of the offenders, including the litter of five. I was gonna pop the rodents, but with a 6-year-old, that became impossible. So....... just a few miles distant there lived an abulance chaser who was/is one of the biggest blow-hards in our fair neck of the woods. He had an immaculate garden the size of most folks back yards that was set fairly close to the road. Catch & late-night relocation release program(G).
