    Plugging in variables

I heard a speech recently from a business advisor who used a software program to help clients determine if they were charging the right prices for their services based on variables like wages, cost of fuel, insurance, etc. I know this is nothing new but I found it interesting. The program also allowed users to plug in prices they charge for various services. It was amazing to see how much extra profit could be made by some minor tweaking. Does anybody here do that with their business? Do you have time to play the "what if" game and actually make changes based on these hypothetical variables?

The question of the year here at Mitchell Mechanical... I am lucky if I get a chance to review my financials! I am spending my time reading time management books. Maybe I will get around to that after these books get me somewhere!

P.S. John can you post the link to your books website? For some reason I can't get the link you posted in the other thread to work. I would love to read it and help send Alan to ISH.

    Thanks

The link wasn't working so it is best to cut and paste into your browser:

Now, let's see, what if everyone bought a book... Now, back to the subject.

    what if

Yes , at B.E.S. this is reguarly reviewed . Start with Ellen (the numbers Queen) Rohrs books. We have had excellent help from Wayne Atkins and run his simple Excell spread sheets to evaluate net profit on each individual job. It's pretty simple and it works. Numbers Cruncher goes along with what Ellen preaches and is great for what if's .

Like what if gas is 5$ a gallon next month , how does that impact the bottom line per truck , per day????. if you don't figure this stuff out you are just flying blind praying to make money but not really knowing.

    net pricing

We have been using Wayne Atkins excel spread sheet for a few mos now. It opened my eyes up to what Im REALLY making.

You have to know your fixed costs + your OH, I must admit I was just guessing ( educated ) before Wayne came in, now I know my costs to the penny. Its a bit of work but its the only way to run a profitable biz.
