Vitodens 6-24 lockout

Will the boiler stay on and actually start up if you hold the on/off button in? If so, does it run normally or do you get a red light indicating a burner lock out? Do any fault codes show up on the screen when you hold in the button?

    Vitodens 6-24 lockout

Looking for quick ideas on a problem that surfaced this weekend.

In the boiler room on Sat. and heard a humming coming from the boiler - not loud - but any sound from the Vitodens gets my attention.

Sounded like it was coming from the pump. Pushed the on/off button. Boiler shut off, sound goes away. Push the on/off again and the boiler will come on (without the noise) as long as I hold the button in but will not stay on when I release it.

I have a call into my heating guy this morning. In the meantime we have no hot water. Did manage to limp through the rest of the weekend with what was in the Vitocell - which by the way was at temp when I turned the boiler off.

Anyone ever seen this before? It's only 8 months old so I assume whatever is wrong will be under warranty but it surprised me to be having any issues given all the great things I've read about the product here. It's worked flawlessly until now.

    Thanks!

    Just a hunch

and I am no expert yet, but I would check the combustion air inlet for blockage. EDIT from my notes from Viessmann, indeed check the P-switch. You are on-track.

    Update

Thanks for the replys folks. My heating guy has called back and will be checking it out (hopefully today).

    In answer to your questions:

    1) I checked for blockage first thing and didn't find any. the intake/exhaust is nearly the minimum length with 3 feet of vertical pipe, one 90 and out the wall.

    2. It seemed to start and run normally as long as I held the button in. Burner fired and no red light. I checked the fault code memory and got 000.

    3. I'm located in southern Wisconsin. If my guy can't get to the bottom of it we'll have to call Viessmann. On the phone he was puzzled by it (new one to him) and was going to check out a model they have sitting at the shop.

Thanks again for the interest and suggestions. It's a good problem to have when it's 75 degrees out instead of -15 degrees!

    Further update

Apparently the switch itself is the culprit so he is ordering a new switch (and the board it's attached to...)

    That would be

My guess also. I had one that did the same thing and upon some dis assembly of the switch mechanism, I found that the spring was buggered up. A little bending of the end of the spring and the problem was solved.
