    exp. tanks

I assume you mean a diaphragm type tank. If so, then any position will do as long as they are not used with an airscoop. If it has an airscoop, it will need to be hanging. Regardless, make sure they are supported properly.
  • If you're thinking...

about screwing it onto the boiler someplace upside down, don't do it. It will fill with water and it WILL break the pipe, thereby breaching your vessel. And that ain't pretty.

Always properly mount it in a safe and secure place.

Did you know, it is illegal to hang an expansion tank from the bottom of an air seperator in New Mexico?

The AHJ down there decided that because everyone and their brother was using Entran 2 hose, and the lack of o2 barrier caused the expansion tanks to rot due to oxygen, and the'd fall off and hit the floor and make a big CLUNK and scare people. So to avoid scaring people, AND maybe not having tanks rot off and hit the floor, they banned people from hanging the ex-tank off of the fitting for which it was inteded.

They should have banned non O2 barrier tubing for use as a heating system component. The ex-tanks would still be there, and there'd be a LOT less insurance claims for water damage from tanks going CLUNK, SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. and we wouldn't be having this conversation :-)

Some pipples kidz, I'm tellin' ya...
