how can I get 110,000 BTU out of my T80 Munchkin?

I understand that the T80 Munchkin is actually capable of 100,000 BTU, but it's only available for DHW.

Our Munchkin is "right sized", and this should be OK, but if we get a once-in-50-years cold wave, is there a way I can coax more than 80,000BTU out of the Munchkin for space heating?

Does T80 vs T80M make a difference? I have whichever one is the wall-mount.

    Exactly Ted!

Even if you could pull the "extra" btu's from the Munchkin, there is no guarantee that you have enough emitter to handle them.

    Sweaters are cheap!

Thanks for the advice, but that sweater business didn't actually answer my question.

PS We have lots of radiation. Water won't go above 150F even when boiler is running unmodulated.

Not that I am aware of and I have lots of Munchkins out there.

The board is programmed that way and I can't change it.

T-80 is the wall unit and the 80m is the floor unit.

If your T80 doesn't go above 150 now, I think you will be OK on those extreme cold days.

FWIW, we installed a T80 in a 5000 square foot motorcycle shop. It is the ONLY heating device in the place and it has never failed to keep the place at 68 degrees. Even when it went to -15 for a few days.

I just mean a professional would not design around that type of cold spell. Its wastefull.

If you needed the 110,000, you could have used the Munchkin 140. Its output ia about 126,000btus.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am sorry; I am only an amateur, but I did not follow that.

The water doesn't go above 150 with the boiler running unmodulated (full). This means there is excess radiation compared to the boiler capacity, so the radiation spits out 80,000 BTU even with the water at 150F. That's why the boiler can't heat the water any higher.

But this doesn't say anything about whether 80,000 BTU will heat the house on a cold day...am I confused?

Thank you for your reply. But my question was "How can I get 110,000 BTU out of my T80 Munchkin?"

I have a feeling you'll find that 80,000 btus of modulating/condensing power goes a LONG way! Just don't use deep, daily setbacks in very cold weather as the recovery time can become excessive.

One of the good things about your oversized radiators is that they have no problem nearly instantly liberating the full boiler output.

The only way it should be done

is on a call for domestic hot water, through the Vision One system.

This is the answer to the question, if you have any others, please feel free to call our office.

OK, thanks! I have the Vision manual and I can see how easy it is to "fool" the system into thinking it is doing DHW...thereby voiding the warranty and filling the house with CO and who knows what else.

I do realize that efficiency will suffer, but I was hoping for a secret "turbo" switch for use only whn absolutely necessary.

    An 80 Munchkin

running at those higher temperatures may only be running low 90% maybe lower efficiency. So you actually have an output of 72K per hour. Could be less if you have a long flue run also.

Sounds like you are a tad undersized if it is not keeping up on less than design days.

Why not get a boiler that is matched to the actual calculated load instead of trying to "hot wire" what you have?

The beauty of the modulating boilers is that a small oversize doesn't cost any efficiency hit.
