Viessmann in a barn

This was a nice job despite getting involved in it about midway through it. All the tube was installed in the floors. Wrong size in one spot, not enough in a couple others but hey, if it was easy, everybody'd be doing it right?

We wound up with 4 low temp zones, 3 interior for space heating, one semi exterior for poop melt in the cow staging area. 3 high temp zones serve the 120 gallon SuperStore, an air handler in the milking parlor and a mini-tube loop out to the manifold that keeps the gutter from freezing up in the winter.

The boiler is a Rondomat RMT-165 with a two stage Weishaupt oil burner firing at 325 and 650Kbtu. The Dekamatik control runs heating circuit A (straight boiler temp) and B (the 2" 4-way), along with DHW, the recirc pump and the diverting valve used for low temp protection and provides control voltage for the circ panel.

The blue tank is a glycol pig. In a dairy barn, the milk inspectors REALLY get sideways about anything connected to the potable water supply so we just charge the tank to 55-60psi and let it feed the boiler through a standard FB-38. We install a gauge upstream of the PRV to monitor pressure and observe if the system is losing any bodily fluids.
I'll see if I can get the 'puter to barf out some pics.

    This is especially timely *~/:)

you certainly have done wonders with the inherited system...There is some Grundfos conglomeration from England called a PUMP PLAN...my thought was to get them to send some over minus the pumps and lash some 15 series 60 hrz motors into it...sorta remanufacture one for the US market..i wonder ...have any of you seen one? the reason i ask is that it might come in handy on larger domestic water recirc solutions and perhaps even on some what larger radiant systems that need to have a creative solution....The propress seems to like you Way bettern it liked me:)

    Interesting...

That the #2 sensor is before the pumps on the 4way....

    Sensor location

    Thanks Paul.

It has to be there in order to see the B circuit temp when any one of the four zones call for heat. Couldn't really place it on the outlet of any single circ because any one of them may or may not be running. They all run the same temp for simplicity's sake. Some overshoot or undershoot isn't a big deal in this application so the most expedient route was selected.

As I understand it, that was the last orange Rondo in Viessmann's inventory and it just happened to be the size required for the job.

    Collector's item...

ahhh, I see. The sensor location wouldn't be that critical. I tried to find some left-over RN staged boilers, but they were "sold out". Still wish a staged boiler was available in the 200K-250BTU range, instead of 300K.
