Is it recommended to shut off the boiler completely during summer or just turn off the thermostat? Is there any particular reason to keep it on during summer or vice versa?

    On Or Off???

Assuming that the boiler is in the basement and it has a standing pilot, leave it on. Helps prevent condensation on walls of heat exchanger. Spark ignition,.Well...the thing is supposed to be automatic meaning that you need not mess with it. If ya get cold you can just turn on the heat, but if it's been shut down, your screwed. In a perfect world all units would be made of pure Titanium and no problems would ever exist. BUT would cost 15000.00 just for the boiler.....Dont worry about it and I am sure that the Engineers are going to tell you that you need an automatic Kanuuter valve to make your system last 1 month longer then it normally would and to hire a full time person to constantly monitor the system. Bottom line,...Dont worry to much about the system just keep professional maintenance yearly on the boiler.

    MIke...I have a

    millivolt system.

Should I turn the standing pilot off? And should I fill it or empty it? I have normally filled it, brought it up to steam so get rid of the "stuff" that helps corrode? and then shut the thermostat and leave the pilot on til, I pray...November!
