007 circulator

What would be the outcome of replacing an old, large circ pump with a 007 if the loop is piped in 1-1/2" copper. Assuming the 1-1/2" was to get the most BTU's because it is a single zone Will the 007 keep up with it. Boiler is in the basement and it only heats the first floor.

Thanks...............ROOKIE

    Need More Info

What is the size of Boiler, Length of longest run, What was in there before, total heat load of 1st floor that you are heating, How mush effective base do you have?

A lot of pertinent information is missing to select the correct circulator. However, because you have 1 ½” pipe in a residential application, I ‘m sure the 007 will do a fine job for you. If you like, contact me direct with the BTU load, length of pipe,(I have the diameter) and I will go through the calculations for you

Sorry about the lack of info, I got ahead of myself a little. The existing boiler is 100,000 BTU's. I am bidding on replacing it (first boiler install) and haven't got in to do a heat loss yet. I was trying to get a head start with the circ. I know there is a few other bids and I don't want to low ball the job for the sake of getting it. "Do it right, Do it once" Not to waste anybodys time, if I pick up the job and when I have the proper info I'll get back to you.
    Thanks........Dan

    005

The oo5 would also be suitable, it all depends on the pump head in this application. I know its only 1st floor, but how long is that piping??? @ 10 GPM the 007 will only produce about 7.5 to 8 ft head...Is that enough in this application? In my opinion, if there is 150ft of piping out and back you would need to go with the 0010 to flow 10 gpm that the boiler need to move @ a 20Del T. Even a 008 looks to small. Welcome opinions....

    Taco 007 does the job!!

Rookie is telling us the diameter is 1 1/2” in a residential application. This sounds like an old gravity system, or steam conversion, why else would someone use such a large, expensive pipe? If my assumption is correct the water will flow thermally throughout the system. The circulator is there to give a constant flow rate regardless of temperature. Reiterating what I said, and agreeing with the boss The 007 will do a nice job. The 007 is more readily available from any local plumbing supply house.

Thanks guys for the input. Turns out I did get ahead of myself. Didn't get to do a heat loss and don't know the loop length. I tried to bid him a nice system with options
of a tankless like he has or an indirect which I thought would be better. He mumbled a little over what old parts would I be using, which is none, and showed me the same road as the prior bidders. He said he wanted to check around to see what he wanted to do and didn't want a proposal. The system he has is an approx. 35 year old W/M retroed with a Carlin burner and is actually in good shape. His wife seemed to have the interest in something new while he seemed to have a bad attitude over the whole thing.

Joe Mattiello, I kept your number for any future Taco projects, I got some info from Tim Smith @ Taco on the priority zone circ. last year. Very helpful.

    Thanks to all once again......ROOKIE
