Radiant Slab Paint
Ragu
Member Posts: 138
Did a 3" radiant pour over an existing slab a year ago, with blanket insulation between layers. Building is presently unused in winter, but heat has been kept on 45 degrees. Building is a dining room/lounge area for 30 adult students. They want to paint the floor with something fairly durable. Building will see winter use this year. I expect winter slab surface temps of 80+. Any ideas? Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem
As long as it is not painted chrome!!! Just kidding. Even some of the thick epoxy paints are only a 1/16"- 1/8" thick. The darker the color the better, but should not be an issue. Did you run a calc? How much fudge factor do you have? Was the paint the real question?

Haven't got numbers here; supply house did this heat loss. Will get data. Yeah, my question is about the paint being able to stay adhered to a warm concrete floor. Any etching prep involved? Thanks.0 -
Don't worry too much
about the paint sticking. I used "Lucite" epoxy on my shop floor. I didn't mess with the acid wash like it said in the directions since it was new (no oil or anything), just scrubbed it real good w/ soap and water.
7 years later it still looks great. There's one spot by the door where it's worn through a little bit, and one spot in the back where the paint lifted (can of pvc cement got spilled and sat there all weekend).
Nothing else will touch the stuff.

You might want to look into Concrete stains. Daviscolor, Kemko stain, Scofield, Rare Earth, are some companies that make acid stains. They produce a more natural marbled look.0 -
