Hello Guys, need advice.
I'm trying to choose a gas boiler. House needs total of 60,000 BTU. 34000BTU for the basement and 26000BTU for the first floor. Acording to my calculations "ULTRA 80 or ULTRA 105" should be enough for the heating. I wold like to install 40 galons indirect water heater, but according to it's specifications it needs 140,000 BTU gross. Family of 3 adults will be living in the house. In order not to run out of hot water should I go with a bigger boiler? By the way the heating zones vary from 900BTU to 5000BTU. If i take ULTRA 155 it wont be able to modulate for such small zones. Minimum modulation rating for that boiler is around 30000 BTU. Any advice from you profesionals is apreciated. What's my choice for the boiler?
Thanks,

Buderus
Buderus has a 95 percent eff wall unit that varies btu input...I would take a look...0 -
I'm a bit puzzled...
... that your above-ground areas of the home need fewer BTU's than the basement area to get heated.
But be that as it may, I would choose among the Weil-McLain Ultra 80, HTP T80, or the Viessmann Vitodens WB2 6-24. All of them modulate from about 80kBTU to 20kBTU.
I wouldn't worry about upsizing for the indirect. Most families are fine with 50 gallon gas-fired water heaters, whose output is maybe 40kBTU, if that. The 140kBTU rating on that 40-gallon indirect is the maximum input rating, not the minimum. If you have tubs and other big "dump loads", you may need to upsize the storage capacity but not necesssarily the boiler.0 -
agree with constantine
about the indirect, but check out the buderus GB as well0 -
The 80 will do just fine....
Walter,
I have had a Ultra 155 for a few years now, I have the Max. temp. for the indirect side cut back to 140 and still make all the hot water that my family of five needs. Have never even got the water to get even a little bit cool. The most important thing is that you follow the instructions to the T when you pipe it. Also make sure that you have enough pump to get good circulation.... Many problems are caused by those issuses and not the sizing of the boiler.
Also, once the boiler is installed, either you or have someone that knows their stuff to back the boiler down on the heating side to match the 60K load that you have for heating. My bet is that you could back it down to say 45 or 50 K and still have enough heat. You can do that iwth that boiler and still have the full 80 K to make hot water with.
You will have many trouble free years of service if you get it installed correctly from the get go. Make sure that who ever installs your boiler knows what they are doing!!!
