running gas line outdoors in nyc - code??

Thinking of having my gas line extended from my kitchen to the outside of my house. The line would run along the side of the house and eventually across my yard about 30 feet to feed a pool heater.

The only thing is that the first 10 feet of my yard is concrete and the remainer is grass. The pipe would lay on top of the cement and then be buried where the grass starts.

Im not sure if this would be a code violation- having the 1/2" gas pipe exposed on top of the cement for that 10 feet?

Anybody know?

    Jim.

Must be a small pool your trying to heat. My advice is to size the gas line to the load first then determine the size of the pipe. Not knowing all your field conditions, it IMHO it may not be wise to lay piping in harms way especially unprotected. Why not do above first and then see if you could drill a hole below ground and then drive or sleeve to go below the cement just make sure you call the "Dig" number and be sure to obtain a permit.

    yes its a small pool

and there is already an electrical conduit that runs along the top of the cement until it hits the grass (which is a few inches higher then the cement).. was told by a home inspector years ago it was a technical violation but in that case there was no other way.

Can do that cement thing, since the concrete runs from the house out to the grass and the basement is semi below ground.

Perhaps this would be a great opportunity to bring it up to .

standard by ,making sure the gas supply taken off the kitchen is able to carry the pool heater load and install it underground and r and r the electrical conduit....at the same time.*~/:)

nyc code allows galvanized piping exterior above grade, 3/4" is the minimum allowable both inside and outside. a licensed plumber would be able to help you.

    Sure

You can run housepiping on the outside of the house as long as it is correctly supported, galvanized is the way to go as the other post suggested, when you turn to go underground I would go with copper or plastic underground, if plastic with an anodeless riser and a tracer wire at both ends. As the other post suggested the problem with pool heaters is large load and large pressure drop. We often have to change the service to 2 pound gas to make the sizing work.
