At work(where I just went back on Tuesday) I got back to find out that some middle management got cut, one of our offices got "downsized" and is now an oil rack only. Then, Friday 8 out of 30 service techs got laid off. Looks like I'm back near the bottom of the seniority list. Should I be worried here or what? Anyone else seeing any of this??

space for the new van hes going to have to get you Time to trade up0 -
Sounds like a oil company
in my area. They work the men 80+ hours a week when they need them and lay off a bunch when the weather gets warm.
Good for the company not so good for the men.
How about creating enough work to keep them men busy year round? Installs, AC, service work, clean up the trouble calls from last winter, Preventive maintenace, ect. so the guys don't have to work like dogs in the winter.
Unless I was looking for seasonal work I would be looking for a new place of employment. With the demand for service techs being what it is why put up with that?

Hey Tommyoil
Got two oil techs working for me. They like it because it's steady year round. We also take care of the customer by selling them new equipment and getting rid of all that oil eating crap that gets you out of bed at 2 in the morning when your on call. Or at least upgrading everything and doing real cleanings that take a couple of hrs instead of telling a tech that they've got to do 6 a day. i don't care if they do 2- 3 a day. This takes care of you because our amount of after hrs calls for our guys are really reduced. we are one of many HVAC companies that do this. I'd check a few out in your area if iwas you as we are all starving for good techs onthe HVAC side. Most oil companies are dinasors I'd say leave while you can before your extinct like they will be if they don't get on the ball. join a company where the management wants everybody to win not just the owners.

Same around here
We are seeing many HVAC, oil, plumbing cos. in this area laying off due to a downturn in the general economy/workload.It will spread to everywhere, I think eventually.0 -
It's very bad
out there and the energy prices are a further cramp on the economy.
The home service sector is a strong-hold, no doubt about that, but the DIY's are a blessing and a curse. They don't call you in the first place to spend a dollar and then get mad that now you want 2-1/2 to fix it. Ya can't win, JMO!0 -
Question
Hey Tommyoil
I know you are in Point. Where is your Co. located so I can figure out who they are. If they laid off some decent guys I might be able to put one or two to work.
Thanks
