HAVE A building that we take care of up here in boston and the insurance inspector came in to do the boiler inspection. 8 module hydrotherm with 2 dedicated to domestic hot water through a heat exchanger, there is a low water cut off on the heating loop, but he stated to the building owner that he wanted one on the domestic hot water also is this code in mass? the domestic is served by the same loop and pump, any comments would help. really don't want to cost them all that money for it. also wanted a seperate high limit manual reset which i installed. thanks tim.

If I understand you post correctly I see no need (and do not think the code requires)a low water cutoff on the domestic water. The manual reset high limit you installed is required IMHO.

low water cutoff
MA. code states any boiler over 400,000BTU's requires low water cutoff0 -
LWCO
Since the system is open, I don't see the need for a LWCO on the domestic side. Any loss of water in the system woould open the LWCO UNLESS the Hot Water setup is at an altitude within the system that has the inspector concerned.0 -

Two of the boiler are seperate from the heating producing hot water from a heat exchanger.
I can see the inspector point and reason for a safey on the other unit....0 -

I am assuming this is an 8 module Hydrotherm as posted. These are treated as they are one boiler. 1 operating control for the bank of 8, 1 lwco for the bank of 8, 1 man reset limit for the bank of 8 etc.
All 8 modules are protected by the 1 LWCO--one is not needed on the domestic side of the heat exchanger.
